From the Latin vultus "expression, appearance, demeanor" — is the systemic study of conversational expressions and body language, as it connects to aspects of psychology.

1. Mind-Body Connection

The primary principle of vultology is that the mind and body are not separate; the two have a bi-directional relationship and influence on each other. This means that what the mind is thinking and doing can be observed in bodily effects. These effects can be read and back-traced to deduce what type of psychology a person possesses.

2. Persona, Emotions & Processing

There are three main categories in body language analysis. Persona is within our control, and it has to do with our deliberate presentation and the "image" we wish to portray. There is a place for this, but not everything is under our control. Emotions deal with affects that we cannot wholly conceal, and which people can read to tell how we're feeling. Processing has to do with the effects of cognitive activity that show up as we think, for example with our eyes darting around or scowling at the ground while thinking. This last category is the one Cognitive Typology focuses on the most to infer the modes of thought a person most commonly uses; their cognitive type.

3. A New Field of Study

While many laymen have tried to propose body language methods in the past, they have been incomplete, non-systematic and non-reproducible. A comprehensive methodology, which covers all corners of human expressivity has not existed until now. While Paul Ekman's FACS did this when it came to facial muscles, bodily expressions have not had a tool for holistic analysis before. We have designed the Vultology Code to cover this missing dimension, paving the way for the systematic tracking of body-wide expressions and their psychological correlations. We are publishing papers about our discoveries on a regular basis.
