Gabriel Barkay is a renowned Israeli archaeologist, born in 1944 in Hungary. A professor emeritus at Bar Ilan University, he is best known for his excavations in Jerusalem, especially at the Ketef Hinnom site where he discovered the oldest known copies of biblical text. He's the co-founder of the Temple Mount Sifting Project. Barkay's work, significantly contributing to our understanding of ancient Jerusalem, has earned him the prestigious Israel Prize for Archaeology in 1996. His commitment to archaeological research and teaching makes him a vital figure in the study of the history and archaeology of the Holy Land.
