Vladimir Kramnik, born in 1975 in Tuapse, Russia, is one of the most distinguished chess grandmasters of his generation. He rose to global prominence in 2000 when he defeated Garry Kasparov for the World Chess Championship, ending Kasparov's 15-year reign. Kramnik then successfully defended his title multiple times until 2007. Renowned for his deep strategic understanding and impeccable endgame technique, he played a pivotal role in the popularization of the Berlin Defense in the Ruy-Lopez. Off the board, Kramnik has been influential in chess education and innovations, notably assisting with the development of advanced chess algorithms.
