Alanis Morissette is a Canadian-American singer, songwriter, and actress best known for her raw, confessional lyrics and powerful alt-rock sound.
Her first two albums in Canada were pop-leaning, but everything changed with Jagged Little Pill (1995)—a massive, culture-shifting album that made her a global star and she became one of the best-selling albums of all time.
She explored themes of love, anger, healing, motherhood, spirituality, and mental health. Her songwriting is known for its emotional honesty and unconventional phrasing.
Beyond music, she’s acted, written, and been a vocal advocate for mental health, feminism, and trauma recovery. Alanis Morissette is widely credited with reshaping 1990s rock and opening the door for more emotionally fearless songwriting in mainstream music—equal parts catharsis and confrontation.
