Sigmund Freud, born on May 6, 1856, in Freiberg, Austria (now Příbor, Czech Republic), was a pioneering neurologist and the founder of psychoanalysis, a clinical method for diagnosing and treating mental disorders. Freud introduced groundbreaking theories about the unconscious mind, defense mechanisms, and the structure of the psyche, including the id, ego, and superego. His work laid the foundation for understanding human behavior, emotion, and cognition, although many of his theories have been controversial and subject to revision or rejection. Freud's influential works include "The Interpretation of Dreams" and "Civilization and Its Discontents."
