Bertrand Russell

  • Bertrand Russell (1872–1970) was a British philosopher, logician, mathematician, historian, and social critic, recognized as one of the 20th century's foremost thinkers. He co-authored "Principia Mathematica," a pivotal work in logic and mathematics. Russell won the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1950 for his extensive contributions to various fields. A passionate advocate for peace, he opposed both world wars and nuclear weapons. His thoughts on physics, religion, science, morality, and metaphysics have profoundly shaped Western philosophy.

  • Professor of philosophy.
  • Specialized in Tibetan Buddhism, philosophy of mind, cognitive science, epistemology, metaphysics, philosophy of language, ethics, and hermeneutics.

We see a lot of Pi and Delta Si themes even early on in his life: he came to be considered a person of wise counsel even from a young age, reading Hebrew by 6 years old, Shakespeare by 9 years old, completing an academic modal logic theorem before finishing high school and teaching graduate courses at MIT while only an undergraduate at Harvard. His influential "Kripkenstein" interpretation of Wittgenstein is noted for pointing out a perceptive skeptical problem, even if it is controversial. Most of his contributions to philosophy involve technical systems of indexical logics and semantics which restructure aspects of various branches of philosophy. This is especially suitable for Si+Te and has a lot of themes of the IT function (Fi ->Te), i.e. Principles of Abiotic Procedures. He is also known for being endearingly eccentric in how he comes across to others, another Seelie Delta theme.

  • His "Kripke Semantics" are very influential in Modal Logic
  • His "Naming and Necessity" restructured Philosophy of Language
  • Famous interpretation of Wittgenstein called "Kripkenstein"

  • Many more contributions, much of his work remains unpublished

He shows a lot of themes of the Worldview Energetic and Si in particular: thorough and fluid skepticism, meticulous arguments and proofs, commitment to realism and many enduring contributions to the wisdom of the Analytical philosophical tradition. He also shows signs of his conscious Fe and Je through his recognition of how facts and values cannot be completely separated, his interest in more ethical forms of philosophy and his practical contributions to logic and computer science. Overall he shows a lot of the light-hearted and socially aware philosophical inclinations of Alpha quadrant.

  • Hilary Putnam (1926–2016) was an influential American philosopher known for his work in philosophy of mind, language, and mathematics. A central figure in Western philosophy during the 20th century, he contributed significantly to the development of philosophical realism and functionalism. Putnam notably challenged conventional thinking through his "multiple realizability" thesis and "brains in a vat" thought experiment. An intellectual chameleon, he frequently revised his philosophical stance, earning him a reputation for breadth of thought and continual self-critique.
