Sir Gregory Winter is a British molecular biologist and chemist best known for pioneering the development of therapeutic monoclonal antibodies through protein and antibody engineering. He played a central role in the invention of phage display, a technique that revolutionized drug discovery and enabled the creation of targeted antibody-based medicines now widely used to treat cancer, autoimmune diseases, and inflammatory disorders. As a co-founder of several successful biotech companies, including Cambridge Antibody Technology, Winter helped bridge academic science and pharmaceutical application. For this work, he was awarded the 2018 Nobel Prize in Chemistry, recognized for contributions that are firmly grounded in rigorous, peer-reviewed science and real-world medical impact.
