Richey Edwards (1967–1995) was the lyricist and rhythm guitarist for the Welsh rock band Manic Street Preachers, considered by many one of the greatest lyricists in the history of alternative rock. Known for his brooding and intellectual wordplay, he employed poetic technique that blended cultural commentary, political and religious critique, and existential despair, shaping the band’s identity through literary prose and emotional honesty. Edwards’ eloquence, laced with self‑destructive impulses, made him an enigmatic figure of 1990s alternative rock before disappearing at age 27 and presumed dead. He's left behind a lasting imprint of lyrical brilliance, psychological darkness, and unresolved mystery.
